It was a fussy night last night. She is definitely falling asleep too much during her feedings. And my ability to stay awake is mediocre at best. The oxytocin overload I get from breast feeding is incredibly hard to fight against, especially at night, having just woken up from a rather deep sleep.
Speaking of deep sleep, I was never the kind of person that fell asleep easily. Or quickly, unless absolutely exhausted. Since giving birth, I’ve been falling asleep incredibly easily and very deeply. I would venture to say that it’s similar to the kind of sleep James can get due to the military’s “sleep when you can” thing.
We supplemented overnight to help with her overall intake. We can tell she’s not getting a whole heck of a lot when she’s falling asleep so quickly. She’s gobbling down the formula. Once she does that, she sleeps very well. Though, her feeding at 7:30am went a bit better, I kept her less cuddled and not as warm. I think the overwhelming heat from my body, her swaddler, and my arms and hands is putting her to sleep as much as her pacifying is.
She spent some time in her swing this afternoon, wide eyed and cute, making all sorts of cute squeaking sounds, then fell asleep for a while. Though, she still does prefer to be held, and is getting a lot of bonding time between the four of us. I would rather her get that kind of thing with other people, especially family members. I think it will help with socialization and comfort levels. Though, I think she sometimes gets sick of one person, because she will fuss a tiny bit, but calm down when given to someone else. 🙂
We’re both very glad James is back, and I can tell she’s happy he’s back. She’s bonded with him very well. Planning on skyping with Fran, Kate and little Fran, but he’s napping, so that will have to wait.
Zoe’s stomach seems better today, she has less gas. She’s a lot less upset today, and isn’t tooting like a little freight train. It’s nice to see her so much more content. Finally got to skype with my big bro and his family. Little Fran was so excited to get to see his new baby cousin! Especially when she was out of her swaddler and he could see all her little wiggling limbs.
After visiting with them, we went out to dinner at our new favorite Indian restaurant, Himalayan Chutney. Though, we did stop off at the Richeson’s (gave us the stroller/carseat) to pick up some clothes. And good lord, it ended up being three large 15 gallon bags, and two standard kitchen sized bags. Talk about a lot to sort through! Dinner was awesome, as usual. Mom & Dad really enjoyed it. We all enjoyed a small glass of wine each. We also got a bunch of nibblets from Sluy’s Bakery to enjoy before they have to leave.
