I’ll leave off the discussion of the actual 4th, since it’s in my last post. Suffice it to say it was an interesting day to say the least, and amusing.
The entire weekend was fun and filled with the usual stresses of vacationing, traveling, and herding cats so to speak.
Friday was the boys’ day to go hiking (which they try to schedule pretty much wherever we go). So us girls had the kids for the day…with only one car so we couldn’t exactly go anywhere. To top it all off, my knee has been acting up and decided to go full tilt stupid. So, we packed up the kids after the guys were dropped off with one of the cars.
Being that it’s far drier and hotter on that side of the Cascades, there was definitely some sun block in my purse at all times for myself and the wee one. We eventually managed to find our way through the streets and parking lots over to the Target which wasn’t very far. Got the few things we needed. Not without some fantastic temper throwing. It’s not a normal day for us without at least one. 😀
From there we headed to JCP, which thankfully was also pretty much right there. It was a nice respite from the heat and UV. It was a small part of town with not much at all to do within walking distance, so we made the best of it. My friend got some killer deals on a bunch of stuff. Their clearance throughout the store was pretty killer, I have to say. Though, I didn’t have much luck. I do love my new lounge pants, though. My other ones are starting to fall apart.
Shortly after entering JCP, I sat down and put on my knee brace and took some Tylenol. Definitely helped once it all kicked in. I’m still getting used to moving with the knee brace, and I think it’s helped me move better on my knee altogether, even when it’s not on. Felt a bit bad for the kids all weekend since napping was so hard at times, especially for the babies. Mine especially. She’s the only one in our household, so she’s not used to ignoring other kids romping around. Even trying to get her to nap in her stroller was a fight. The different surroundings and the incredible brightness outside, and everything..it’s understandable that she fought it tooth and nail.
We stopped for a bit for a quick snack, much sandwiches and bananas to be had! Thank goodness for empty Starbucks cups (the only coffee shop we saw, or at least…the only one I saw the entire weekend in two different towns) for storing banana peels and other bits of garbage until we could get to a garbage can.
After a bit we headed back to the hotel for something resembling lunch and naps. Not much napping happened. Waited for the guys to get back. They were much later than they originally thought they would be. And quite a bit more worn out. It was after dark by the time they even reached the bottom and the car.
Our last day there, we wandered with everyone to really see the sites around town. It was pretty hot, and there were misters at different locations throughout the downtown for people and pets alike. Very pet friendly. I saw quite a few water bowls outside of entrances. We got separated from our friends a couple times while we were walking around. James and I got some really nice loose tea from a little shop we found, our friends checked out the Nutcracker Museum and got a little nutcracker for another friend for watching their dog while we were out of town. We met back up outside the Nutcracker Museum and headed for the Kris Kringl shop there, which is a holiday/Christmas shop all year round. It’s pretty incredible.
We found some awesome stuff (might have to start ordering from their website) and some amazing ideas for decorating for Yule in the future. It was so neat wandering around in there, and we ended up wandering around twice, there was so much to look at.
